Kings, Brockville to renew lacrosse rivalry

May 27, 2013

Kingston Kings will renew their rivalry with the Brockville Ballistic Tuesday when they travel to Brockville for an Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League date at the Memorial Centre.

Game time is 8 p.m.

In a junior rivalry that dates to 1973, in the eight years that Kingston has put a team on the floor, six times they made the playoffs and four times they wound up facing Brockville. In the last two years of the current junior C incarnation in both towns, the teams have meet in the first round of playoffs each summer, Kingston winning the best-of-five series 3-2 in 2011 and the Ballistic prevailing 3-0 last year.

This will be the teams’ first of four meetings of 2013.

Kingston, 2-3, sits in sole possession of third place in the East division standings, four points behind undefeated Cornwall and Clarington. Brockville, 1-3, is sixth, two points ahead of winless Gloucester.

Kingston won its last game, at home Thursday, 10-4 over Gloucester. Brockville was defeated at home Saturday by Cornwall, 8-3, in a game where the Ballistic dressed only 12 runners.

Kingston’s Kyle Aylesworth and Josh Smith share sixth place in the league scoring race, with 15 points apiece. Aylesworth and teammate Haneh Brant share the league goal-scoring lead, each with nine.

Brockville has been led in the early going by Jarret Pitt and Casey Crook, each with 11 points in four games. Among them, Pitt (eight goals), Cory Robertson (seven) and Crook (five) have scored 20 of the Ballistic’s 24 goals so far.

The Kings will return home Thursday night to host the three-time defending Ontario champion Clarington Shamrox. Game time at Centre 70 is 8 o’clock.
