Holy Cross captures EOSSAA boys hockey championship

Holy Cross Crusaders scored three goals in a 53-second span in the middle of the first period and that set the pace for an 11-1 victory over the Thousand Islands Pirates in the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association boys AAA hockey championship game Tuesday at the Invista Centre.

It was the fourth consecutive EOSSAA title for Holy Cross, which will advance to play in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations tournament, March 17-21 in Oakville.

Matt Marino scored three goals and added two assists for Holy Cross, which led 5-0 after the first period and 11-0 after the second. Jack Gibbons of Thousand Islands scored the only goal of the third period.

Brandon Nadeau and Zach Skolnick, with two goals apiece, Max Brunner, Colin Tonge, Mack Hancock and Wyatt Plain also scored for the Kingston Area champion Crusaders, who are undefeated (12-0) in league and post-season play. Jake Morley collected three assists.
