April 25, 2014

A goal by Emile Flavin in the closing minutes of the game lifted the Kingston Blues into a 2-2 tie with the Bayridge Blazers in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer game Thursday afternoon.

Playing on Tindall Field, KC’s Mark Lappan scored the only goal before the break, on a breakaway midway through the first half. Two goals by Josh Barrett, one on a breakaway and the other on a free kick from 25 yards out, gave Bayridge a 2-1 lead until Flavin’s goal allowed the Blues to emerge undefeated at 1-0-1.

In other senior games Thursday, the Sydenham Golden Eagles and Frontenac Falcons both improved to 2-0, Sydenham with a 4-0 win over the Granite Ridge Gryphons on the Queen’s University West Campus field and Frontenac with a 6-1 victory over the Ernestown Eagles at Caraco Field.

The Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, meanwhile, won their season opener, 4-0 over the Loyalist Lancers, and the La Salle Black Knights handed the Napanee Golden Hawks their second defeat of the young season, 4-1 at west campus.

Joey Moser, Joel Wilkinson, Sam Moyse and Jordan Torres shared the scoring for Sydenham, in front of the perfect goalkeeping of Nick LeBlanc.

Connor Smith’s three-goal performance led La Salle, as the Knights improved to 1-1. Denver Stevens scored the other goal for the winners while Alex Ilie replied for Napanee.

In the other game at Tindall Field, Ryan Almeida scored a pair of goals for Regi, both on nice passes from striker Scott Robb. Josh Brown, on a penalty kick, and Rob Brown also scored for the Panthers, who got some fine defensive play from Martin Smith and Jordan Pringle in front of goalkeeper Matt Truelove.

• In Thursday’s only senior girls game, Sydenham gained its second win of the year, 9-0 over Granite Ridge. Michelle Walsh scored five times, Taylor Simmons scored twice and Erin Villeneuve and Mackenzie Davies once each for the Golden Eagles, who received shutout goalkeeping from Ashley Grant.
