All CIS hockey games Saturday to pay tribute to the Major

January 16, 2014

A moment of silence will be observed before every men’s hockey game in Canadian Interuniversity Sport Saturday in memory of Maj. Danny McLeod.

McLeod, first director of athletics at Royal Military College and founding secretary-treasurer of the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union — predecessor of the CIS — died at St. Mary’s-of-the-Lake Hospital early Tuesday morning at the age of 92.

There are 15 hockey games scheduled across the country Saturday, including two in Montreal, where the Queen’s Golden Gaels will play the Concordia Stingers and the Royal Military College Paladins will play the McGill Redmen.

Funeral arrangements are complete. There will be visitation at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at St. George’s Cathedral. In Danny’s memory donations may be made to the Salvation Army, St. George’s Cathedral, St. James Anglican Church or the Danny McLeod Athletic Endowment Fund at RMC.
