Local rowers part of Canadian team at Commonwealth championships

August 8, 2014

Two Queen’s University rowers will be on the water tomorrow for the first day of the Commonwealth Rowing Association championships in on the Strathclyde Park course in Scotland, about 30 kilometres south of Glasgow, site of the recently completed Commonwealth Games.

Though not officially a part of the Games, the regatta is held in conjunction with them.

Meaghan Robinson, of Bowen Island, B.C., and Larkin Davenport Huyer, of Caledon, Ont., are both members of the Kingston Rowing Club. They’ll be in the women’s quadruple sculls boat with Gabrielle Smith of Montreal and Olivia McMurray of Airdrie, Alta.

Davenport Huyer won three medals last summer at the Canada Games, in the women’s eight and the double and quad sculls. Both she and Robinson were members of the silver medal-winning Queen’s crew at last fall’s Canadian intercollegiate championships.
